Cameroon faces several challenges related to slow, non-inclusive economic growth and public financial management. Public and private resources are not effectively channelled to support the SDGs and public investment is often ineffective. The new National Development Strategy (NDS) 2020-2030 aims to address these challenges by aligning national development priorities with the SDGs, promoting inclusive growth, and supporting the country’s transition to a Newly Industrialised Country (NIC).
The INFF is critical to identifying integrated financing solutions to support the new NDS and the SDGs. Through the INFF process, the Government of Cameroon will develop a financing strategy for the NDS and will work to mobilise financial resources to accelerate progress towards the SDGs. A particular focus will be placed on tracking public expenditures in the social sectors to better assess efficiency of spending. Through the improved collection and use of gender-disaggregated data, the INFF process will also promote gender-responsive budgeting.
