Gabon

In 2020, Gabon will continue the development of its INFF with support from the UN Joint SDG Fund.

Gabon’s national development strategy adopted “Green Gabon” as a central pillar in order to accelerate the country’s transition from an exactractive economy to a green and sustainable economy that is harmonised with the 2030 Agenda. The INFF process aims to support the establishment of a “deeply green” financing framework, aligning public and private finance with the green agenda and with a gender-sensitive budget. The INFF will accelerate the achievement of the SDGs and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and cement Gabon’s leading role in the fight against climate change at the continental and international level.

The INFF's systemic approach will make it possible to: (a) build a financing framework for both the national development strategy, the SDGs and the transition to the green economy; (b) prepare for the expanded use of innovative green financing mechanisms to power Gabon’s sustainable development; (c) rationalise the development financing ecosystem; (d) develop national capacities in SDG financing instruments to accelerate the achievement of SDGs related to climate change; and (e) establish an effective and inclusive system for monitoring public resources allocated to the transition to a green economy.
